About the Author

A big 5 stars!

What happens when your lover is supposed to be your enemey? Would you sacrifice your chance at happiness because of rumors and prejudice? These are just some of the hard questions that I was asking myself while reading Close Liaisons.
Mia is a naive college student that gets caught up in a dangerous situation when Korum, a visitor from another planet, takes an interest in her. From the first time they meet she feels physically drawn to him, but only five years after the Krinar race made themselves known to Earth there is still a lot of mistrust placed on the alien visitors. Korum doesn't help things with his blunt and territorial personality. His highhandedness and domineering ways had me scared yet drawn to him at the same time. I felt just as confused about my feelings for him as Mia did!
While Mia's naivety and Karum's pompous attitude towards humans had me cringing on more than one occasion I couldn't manage to put it down. The plot and steamy love scenes had me devouring the pages, and thinking about it long after I finished.
For the happily ever after seekers amongst us be aware that Close Liaisons has a satisfying, yet, happy for now, open ending. (Not open enough to feel frustrated, just enough to keep you excited for the next installment.)
My one and only complaint would have to be that during the sex scenes I felt a little put off by the very clinical terms used. Don't get me wrong, I don't want vulgar or flowery synonyms for the male and female form, but something about the very sterile terms thrown into hot (HOT, HOT!) sex scenes let me down.
With an original plot, and characters that won't leave your mind for some time to come I can't recommend Close Liaisons enough!
*You might think I'm a bit crazy, (seeing as there was no BDSM and Close Liaisons is a Sci-Fi Romance) but I can't help but see similarities between Mia/Korum and Anna/Christian from 50 Shades of Grey. A sheltered, small town college student meets a domineering slightly crazy/stalkerish, handsome man is the name of the game in this one. While Anna Zaires writing is much better (in my honest opinion) than James' I thought it might be helpful to point out the similarities to those that enjoy reading about slightly dangerous and all-consuming relationships.

Hard to fall in love with the characters

I want to give this story a higher rating, I really do, but I just can't justify it. The main character Mia is the typical female character in a romance novel; the shy virgin. The male is domineering and a perfect specimen. I had a hard time reading this book and getting involved in the characters lives. Mia was always complaining about her circumstances and Korum was constantly telling her what to do and how to do it. This book tried to romanticize a terribly domineering relationship.
The way it was written doesn't justify the $12.99 price tag either and I'm glad I got it for free. Very clinical terms were used in the sex scenes, but mixed with more raunchy terms. When the author switched to the raunchy words it felt forced and made it hard to read. The plot was interesting: Aliens created life on the planted and played a major role in evolution. Many things were left untouched, I felt the ending was rushed and left too open, even if this is part of a series. The author mentioned a few key pieces to the puzzle and I was interested in how they would pan out, but I was left with nothing and wondering what happened. I want to look at the next book in the series just to see if it was mentioned, but I don't think I can pay for the next one. I guess I will just be left wondering.

The heroine is probably the dumbest girl I have ever read about. SPOILER ALERT! She meets this alien who admits to stalking her and doing a background check on her but decides to sleep with him anyway, even though she fears for life. From then on he proceeds to cut her off from her friends and family, monopolizing her time. During this whole time she never loses the fear that he'd kill her. He becomes possessive and dominating thru out their whole so called relationship. Then she agrees to help humans rebelling against the aliens...she agrees even though she fears she may be falling for the alien who won't let her go places without him or dressed provocatively. I would like to blame her stupidity on being young but I'm sure if you have to refrain from going into fight or flight every time you saw your lover you should know the relationship isn't healthy. This book was so freaking dumb.
